Inspiration Board | Emerald Green, Lime, Sunflower Yellow, and Lemon Wedding

I love using fruit as inspiration for a color palette!  Lemon zest yellow, lime green, and a striking Emerald green make for a vivid yet organic color combination.   Stay tuned to see the custom stationery invitation that was designed for a Dubai bride from this very mood board!  Just looking at these colors makes me want to take a juicy bite of the nearest citrus fruit!

Outfit of the Week | Summer Stripes

In honor of the recent long weekend, where I'm sure many people hit the beach or the boardwalk at Jumeirah Beach Residence to enjoy some of this gorgeous weather we're having in Dubai, this week's Outfit of the Week is my take on that perfect casual weekend style! The dark blue nautical stripes paired with mint would make for a great wedding color pallette and a delightful invitation!

Real Wedding | Sweet Lemonade

With fall weather upon us, even though the weather is just getting good here in Dubai, thoughts of fall weddings and harvest parties come to mind, and with that fall color palettes.  Vibrant, yet muted, tones are foremost on my mind.  Thise green and yellow wedding with is rustic tones is perfect for a Dubai warm-weather-but-it's-actually-a-fall wedding! :)

This week's real wedding comes from Alders Photography in California.  This beautiful wedding, which captured the vibe of an elegant picnic, took place at Maravilla Gardens. With the groom originally from England, the couple really wanted to embrace the ambiance of an English afternoon tea garden. From baby's breath bouquets and lemon centerpieces, to croquet during the reception and Pimm's as the signature cocktail, the bride's homemade scones with jam and the London Cab exit car made for a very well-executed wedding theme! The entire event included many significant personal touches as well. The bridesmaid dresses were designed the bride and her twin sister. The groom's sister and mother made the lemon wedding cake and the bride's mom and cousin played the guitar and sang for the couple's first dance as husband and wife.

Outfit of the Week | Tangerine & Red

The wedding market has been flooded with so many unique wedding invitation ideas in the past few years.  Even compared to three years ago when I started this invitation designing shindig, the variety and creativeness has increased tenfold.  People often wonder where the inspiration comes from for so many creative ideas.  One such place is the fashion industry.  More often than not wedding style, and therefore invitation styles, are mirrored in the current fashion trends...from colors to patterns to materials.  From now on I'll be posting an "Outfit of the Week" to hopefully inspire your next event and invitation.

2013 New York Bridal Fashion Week

If there is one thing I love equal to or possibly even more than wedding invitations it is bridal gowns!  The 2013 New York International Bridal Week took place in New York (duh) from 13-15 October.  Imagine an entire exhibition center full of just dresses!  It's like eye candy and diamonds for the already engaged bride-to-be.  Since I'm already married (just celebrated 1 year!) all I can do is drool at my desk as I look at the tantalizing threads via the internet.  And since most of my gal pals are already married, I don't even get to go window shopping with an engaged girlfriend and live vicariously!   Anyway, I am so in love with the 2013 bridal styles, I just had to post a few of my favorites and make a 2013 Wedding Gown Pinterest Board.  If I were to do it again, here are the 2013 trends I would watch out for:

1.) illusion necklines and backs with transparent textiles and lace, appliques, and beading that seem to float on your skin. We can thank Princess Kate Middleton for this trend!

2.) sleeker silhouettes (gone are the fru-fru frilly poufy skirts covered in a million ruffles, feathers and fabric flowers -- Yes they are still around and "in fashion" and there are many beautiful examples, but I'm just saying they've been around a couple years now (fashions stay on trend for a cycle of 3 years, so it's near the end of this) and are not the top designer trend for 2013.

3.) Vintage Sexy.  The dresses this year are modest and sexy at the same time.  I don't know how else to describe it.  I don't believe that your girls need to be popping out of the top of your dress for all the world to see to be sexy!  In fact, it's a big turn-off and not at all "pretty" when I see that in someone's wedding photo.  With covered up décolletage, this year the sexiness is in the silhouettes, the soft draping (not necessarily glued to your body) or transparent fabrics, and the hint of skin on the necklines, arms, and open/illusion backs.  There's a bit of mystery, which we have all heard a hundred times that's what men find attractive in a life-long partner!

It's very Art Deco/1920s if you think about it, when the flapper girls, who cut their hair, started showing some skin, and danced to fast-paced big band music, were considered very risqué!  I recently purchased the book Vintage Weddings by Marnie Fogg at the big book store in Dubai Mall (I can never remember the full name...Kino-something Book World!), which delved into the history of bridal fashions for the last 100 years, and I learned that the reason the dresses of the 1920's and especially the 30's were sleeker was because there was a ban on how many yards of fabric a dress could have in it due to the Great Depression.  I wonder what would have happened if that had happened the past couple years with the economic recession, which technically was even worse than the Great Depression.  Although now everyone seems to live on credit and spend what they don't actually have.......hmmm...ok, I'm getting sidetracked...that's a topic for another day...and another blog, for that matter! ;)

Here is a look at my top picks if I were to do it all over again next year!  Check out my 2013 Wedding Gowns pinterest board for my full selection.

Business Identity | My Lovely Wedding Branding

When Joelle at My Lovely Wedding contacted me about needing a banner designed for her new wedding blog, we decided that her entire business identity needed a tiny makeover.  I was so happy Joelle agreed to hire me for the complete project!  There's nothing I like more than wedding graphics and I enjoy the occasional branding project for a change from invitation design, so this was a fun opportunity to combine both interests.

If you've met Joelle, you'll instantly realize she is sweet, friendly, girly and edgy all in one.  Soft peony pink, grey and watermelon pink were her main colors before, so I agreed that it shouldn't be changed.  Why fix something that's not broken, right?  After much deliberation on color combinations, we decided to add in a bit of lavender to give her some variety.  I wanted to keep the mood very light and fresh without any heavy or intense colors to weigh it down.  I updated her logo with a vintage typewriter font and a happy little heart with a twist.   Whimsical birds decorating the scene of a wedding with bunting will be added.

Check back here for more as I continue work on My Lovely Wedding's Branding.
